Man re-creates every holiday he has ever taken with his girlfriend during Hong Kong trip — before proposing to her

These days it’s apparently no longer good enough to propose to your significant other over a simple candlelit dinner.

Take Barry Hartweg, 22, who decided to go that extra mile for his 24-year-old girlfriend Madeleine Riccardi on a recent trip to Hong Kong.

The hopeless romantic re-created every holiday the couple, both teachers from Texas, have ever taken together during their week-long tour of the city, before popping the question during a stroll along the beach in Mui Wo on Lantau Island.

Holiday highlights included a visit to Macau’s casinos, intended to prompt memories of the couple’s trip to Las Vegas in December 2012; and a stop at Hong Kong’s Disneyland — similar to a trip they made to Florida’s Islands of Adventure in March 2013.

Meanwhile the journey up Hong Kong’s Victoria Peak was likened to when the lovebirds, who currently work at an international school in Cambodia, climbed mountains in Colorado in July 2014.

And a spectacular view of the Hong Kong skyline was reminiscent of when they visited New York in May 2015.

Mr Hartweg, who uploaded a film of the couple’s Hong Kong getaway to YouTube, proposed to Miss Riccardi at the end of their holiday on April 13 — and she accepted.

Paying tribute to her husband-to-be on Facebook, Miss Riccardi said: “Barry, thank you for all your effort and thoughtfulness in planning basically a week-long proposal. It was so special and I’ll never forget any of it.”

She told the Post: “When I heard we were going to Hong Kong, I knew something special was happening because I’ve always wanted to go. I was looking forward to the Cantonese food, the skyline and being in a big city.”

Commenting on the proposal, she said: “Unfortunately it was really rainy and foggy so not ideal. I felt bad because by that point I was half expecting it. But it was just lovely because it was really quiet down there. It was very special — I was very excited, I was just crying my eyes out.”

The loved-up pair, who met three-and-a-half years ago while studying at Baylor University in Texas, are planning to get married in April next year in their hometown of Dallas, also in Texas.

“I am the type of person where I’ve always wanted to make a big thing of [my wedding]. We’ve already got a guest list of 100 people!” Miss Riccardi said.
