Hongkongers wake to fog and drizzle after partially sunny weekend, with cold weather expected on Tuesday
- Cold front arriving on Tuesday will cause temperatures to drop to as low as 16 degrees Celsius by Wednesday, forecaster says
- Fog and drizzle to continue through the day and mercury expected to reach maximum of 23 degrees on Monday
The Observatory said the weather over southern China would be mainly fine and morning temperatures would be cool during the middle of the week.
“The maritime airstream now affecting the coast of Guangdong will be gradually replaced by an easterly airstream,” the forecaster said. “A cold front will move across the coast of southern China on Tuesday morning. Temperatures will fall over the region.”
According to the nine-day weather forecast, the mercury will start to drop on Tuesday, with temperatures ranging between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius (64 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit). The minimum temperature will gradually reach 16 degrees the next day, before rising to 20 degrees on Sunday.
“A warm and humid southerly airstream is expected to affect southern China gradually in the latter part of this week and early next week,” the forecaster said. “There will be a few showers over the region.”
Hong Kong takes dim view of foggy weather as high humidity carries into another day
On Monday, the mercury stood at 22.3 degrees at 10.50am, with relatively high humidity at 89 per cent. Temperatures are expected to rise to 23 degrees during the daytime.
Visibility at Waglan Island, the city’s southeastern-most tip, fell to about 100 metres (328 feet).
Weather throughout the day will remain cloudy and foggy, with patches of light rain.
