Johnny Yim Lai-hang fails breathalyser test after his Ferrari collides with a taxi
Local music producer and arranger Johnny Yim Lai-hang has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after a collision between his red Ferrari and a taxi outside Happy Valley racecourse.
He failed a breathalyser test at the scene. He was allegedly about three times over the legal limit, according to a police source.
Yim, 38, who escaped injury in the crash, was released on bail and needs to report back to police next month, according to a police spokesman.
The taxi driver, 43, complained of neck pain and was taken to Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai for treatment. He was later transferred to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, where he was in a stable condition.
The Ferrari model F430 F1, which was bought for nearly HK$3 million about seven years ago, was travelling along Wong Nai Chung Road outside Happy Valley racecourse when the crash happened at about 11pm last night.
The car crossed into the opposite lane and came to a stop after it mounted a pavement and rammed into a traffic sign.
The Ferrari suffered damage to its front and the taxi’s bumper fell off.
The Ferrari was bought by Super Keen Limited for HK$2.93 million in 2008, according to car registration records.
Company Registry records show that Yim is the sole director of the firm.
Yim, who was not available for comment, is a major creative force behind the songs of many local pop singers.
He has won a string of awards, including the CASH Song Writing Quest in 2004, the Jade Solid Gold (JSG) “Best Arranger” in 2009, the 34th RTHK Music Awards “Best Arranger”, JSG “Best Producer” in 2012, Commercial Radio Music Awards “Best Arranger” last year and the 37th RTHK Music Awards “Best Composition”.
