Hong Kong cement truck topples over on North Point slip road, closing area to traffic

The truck driver complained of pain in his neck and was taken to hospital

A cement mixer truck toppled over on its side while travelling on the Island Eastern Corridor slip road in North Point on Monday morning, after the driver of the vehicle lost control.

A police spokeswoman said the driver complained of pain in his neck and was taken conscious to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for treatment.

The crash happened shortly after 10am on the slip road from eastbound motorway Island Eastern Corridor into Java Road near North Point Ferry Pier.

Initial investigations showed that the truck fell on its side and slid for a distance before coming to a stop, police said.

The Transport Department said the slip road was closed to all traffic due to the accident. It advised motorists to drive with care and patience.

At about noon on Monday, the slip road was still closed.

Officers from the Hong Kong Island traffic unit are investigating.
