Hong Kong foreign domestic helper arrested over indecent assault case

The woman is alleged to have molested her employer’s 10-year-old son in Sheung Shui

A foreign domestic helper was in police custody on Wednesday night after being arrested on suspicion of indecently assaulting her employer’s 10-year-old son, who was in her care.

The 47-year-old woman was detained after her employer – the boy’s mother – made a report to police at about 9.45am on Wednesday.

The maid was still being detained at Tai Po police station for questioning and had not been charged.

According to police, the case came to light when the boy told his mother he had been molested at his home in Kat Cheung Crescent, Sheung Shui while in the helper’s care.

It is understood the alleged acts happened on Monday and Tuesday.

“A child psychologist will be deployed to talk to the boy and collect more information,” a police source said.

It is understood the maid had worked for the employer for more than 10 years.

Police are treating the case as indecent assault.

Police figures show reports of indecent assault rose by 11 per cent to 311 in the first four months of this year compared with 280 in the same period last year.
