Karl Lagerfeld

Inside Alice's wonderland

"Sorry, I'll be with you in a minute," Alice Dellal says apologetically between mouthfuls of a late dinner, while trying not to burn her mouth.

Paris Fashion Week: good things come to those who wait

Fashion Week is almost over. As some of the hip crowd heads to Carine Roitfeld's party tonight at the Hotel Salomon de Rothschild, there are others that lie utterly exhausted and spent. But despite this being the penultimate day of the Paris schedule, it's not to say it wasn't full of wonder and excitement.

Chanel jacket is star of the show

The LBD, or little black dress, is not the only outfit that is small, black and universally flattering, according to Karl Lagerfeld.

Chanel's prolific designer has teamed up with former French Vogue editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld to celebrate the label's classic little black jacket through an international exhibition and a coffee table book of the same name.

Rupert Sanderson sits in his Mayfair showroom in London, surrounded by his autumn-winter 2012 shoe collection, and waxes poetic. 'I love the fascination; that talisman-like magic that shoes have,' he says.

Queen Carine

'With Karl [Lagerfeld], you never know exactly what you will do,' says Carine Roitfeld, former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, the French edition of the fashion bible. 'You have an idea but you never know how it's going to finish, how long it's going to take or who is going to come; it's always a surprise.'

Classic couture

'For me,' Carine Roitfeld says, 'it's a very easy jacket to wear, almost like a denim jacket - but more chic. And the most beautiful things you don't see. They're inside and hidden: the silk, the details, the little chain and the cut. It's very subtle.'

Chanel plus

The sun has just set across Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden in the middle of Tokyo. The park is tranquil apart from the low buzz of excited chatter from guests entering a huge temporary structure in the centre. Chanel has taken over Tokyo for three days of lavish celebrations that include an haute couture show, a book launch, a pop-up store and an epic party.
