Paris Fashion Week wrap

Paris Fashion Week finished on Wednesday with a powerful finale to the autumn-winter 2013 collections. If the beginning of the nine-day event seemed dark and severe, the ending served to bring out the most playful and positive of next season's designs.

Shorts circuit

With temperatures rising, it's hard for women to look stylish and stay cool. Fortunately, designers have found the answer in the humble pair of shorts, which is given a chic update this season. A summer essential, shorts come in many styles ranging from more formal, tailored Bermudas to short modern takes by Australian brand Ellery.

Feminine streak

Alison Tam owns Pretty Dangerous, a jewellery stockist known for its chunky, grungy accessories. So what's with all this feminine clobber in the would-be rocker's wardrobe?

'I get this a lot,' says Tam at her spacious condo in the Mid-Levels. 'People see the jewellery and ask: 'How come you are so girlie?''

Aspiration vs reality - it's all about balance

British censors have banned Miu Miu's latest advert featuring the 14-year-old actress Hailee Steinfeld. But it's not for the usual reason - she is wearing a conservative 1940s-style skirt suit with a coral peplum and black heels. The issue was about location. Steinfeld appears tired or upset, rubbing her eyes while glumly sitting on a railway track.

Landlords spend big to woo shoppers

Hong Kong retail landlords are banking on bigger and better Christmas displays to get their tenants' cash tills ringing this holiday season.

To lure more people into their malls - especially cash-rich mainland visitors - owners of shopping centres will be vying with each other to offer the most attractive decorations, as well as special deals and promotions.

PRIM AND PROPER

There's no doubting the rise of the Asian model, with names like Liu Wen, Ming Xi, Fei Fei Sun and Du Juan regulars on international runways. Add to the list Wang Xiao, whose big break came last year when she was booked for a major campaign with top fashion photographer Steven Meisel. 'The industry now views the Asian market as vital, particularly in the luxury goods sector,' she says.
