ANOTHER Hong Kong film may be poised for fame in the Oscars.

Director Ann Hui On-wah's Summer Snow is competing to be one of five nominees in the best foreign language category for the 68th annual Academy Awards on March 25.

Summer Snow, a drama about how a middle-class Hong Kong family copes when a father is afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease, will be up against entries from 40 countries.

The final five will be announced on February 13.

The last Hong Kong film nominated for the Oscars was Chen Kaige's Farewell To My Concubine, which starred Leslie Cheung and Gong Li, last year.

Even without the Oscar nomination, Summer Snow has already proved a winner for Hui, whose previous efforts include acclaimed films such as The Story of Woo Viet, Boat People and Song of Exile.

The movie, Hui's first in four years, was released in Hong Kong in May and ran for more than two months, taking in more than $14.5 million at the box office.
