Top Gun: Fire At Will for PC CD-Roms You have seen the movie, now play the game . . . say the designers of Top Gun: Fire At Will. Except that it has taken so long for the game to come out that one would be hard put to remember the movie! For those who cannot remember, Top Gun is the 1986 hit that made Tom Cruise a household name. Cruise played 'Maverick', a young, ambitious rookie at the Top Gun, the US Navy Fighter Weapons School in San Diego, US.

Don't hold your breath for Cruise, though - he is too busy with other missions impossible to appear here.

With an installation instruction booklet that is 24 pages thick and a handbook that is 88 pages, it does not take much to hazard a guess that this game will be slow to take off.

You play Maverick, of course, who pilots a Grumman F-14 Tomcat, one of the best air-to-air combat fighter jets in the world. There are a few basic missions which will be assigned.

Among the most common are the BARCAP (Barrier Combat Air Patrol) where you patrol the carrier's surroundings in a counterclockwise pattern; the Alert Five, where your F-14 is poised on the catapult, ready for action; and Reconnaisance, where you are supposed to fly over enemy territory and take pictures of it so that the intelligence boys have a better idea of what is going on there.

Like real Top Gun pilots, you will have to learn how to fly a fighter jet, how to control it and also learn a lot of new words such as 'bandit' (enemy aircraft), 'call signs' (codename for fighter pilots) and 'drag' (air resistance).
