Australia's hottest new musical act is set to take its big red car on to the big screen.

The Wiggles - possibly the first band in the world to realise the untapped market of the under-fives - plan to make a feature film.

The eventual aim is to tap into key Asian markets such as China and Japan.

A pilot project has now been commissioned by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

'Hopefully we will go into production next year,' an ABC Video spokesman said. 'Breaking into markets like the US, China, the UK and Japan needs a lot of careful planning, but we're confident because Bananas in Pyjamas has opened the door,' she said, referring to the hit children's TV series.

The four-piece band now sells more concert tickets than most Australian acts.

The last three CDs issued, The Wiggles, Yummy Yummy and Big Red Car , have exceeded platinum status, selling more than 70,000 copies each.

Their videos have done the same, with each selling more than 100,000 copies.

They will release their latest video, Wake Up Jeff, next week.
