HK juniors making their mark

Two of Hong Kong's young stars have powered their way into the last 16 of the Under-18s International Tennis Federation, Group Four knockout competition in Kuala Lumpur. In first-round matches, Jason Sankey comfortably beat Mustafa Ghouse of India - ranked 443 in the world - 6-3, 6-3, while Wayne Wong made an extraordinary comeback from a set down to beat the number seven seed Fivos Michamanchalopoulos of Greece - ranked 207 in the world - 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 6-4. Hong Kong's team manager Colin Sankey, Jason's father, said: 'I'm really pleased with the efforts of both boys. Wayne did particularly well to come back after losing the first set. They had two really good wins against tough opponents.

'They have handled the really hot conditions very well. Both their opponents were suffering in the conditions too. The temperature outside is unbelievable - stifling.' Wong and Sankey - the only two Hong players entered in the competition - play their next matches today.
