May Cheong makes model success story

Good quality and reliable productivity won May Cheong Toy Products Factory Ltd exclusive rights to manufacture replica die-cast models of Mercedes-Benz's latest range of cars.

May Cheong, awarded a Hong Kong Productivity Council Certificate of Merit in Productivity in this year's industry awards, has built a worldwide reputation for producing accurate scale models of modern and exotic cars.

The company, which also produces model cars under its own brand name, Maisto, has been awarded the contract to produce models of the Mercedes CLK-GTR class.

The Mercedes range includes the CKK coupe. Equipped with a 193-bhp 2.3-litre super-charged engine, the CKK is touted as one of the most desirable coupes in the world.

Also to be manufactured in the firm's factory in China is the new line of Mercedes SLK M class and A class.

The full-sized models will not be available in Hong Kong until the middle of next year.

Katherinea Ngan, May Cheong's executive director, said the China factory, which produced die-cast scale models, and a second plant in Thailand, which made exotic cars, were both fitted with hi-tech equipment.
