Lam and Sally in Concert Hong Kong Coliseum April 13 With the depressed concert scene these days, it takes bravery to hold shows at the Hong Kong Coliseum over the Easter holidays. It is one of the most eerie times of the year, not only because of the grave-sweeping festival but also because it always seems as if five million people have suddenly left town.

So George Lam and Sally Yeh showed a fair bit of courage putting on as many as 10 shows during this time. As the couple's first concert appearance in Hong Kong since their marriage last year, Lam and Yeh are attracting a certain amount of curiosity as to how their marital status has changed them.

And all was answered at the coliseum when the two-thirds-capacity crowd saw Lam do something he has rarely, if ever, done before: dance, and quite well too.

From the introductions at the start, it was obvious that music quality was to be the order of the day. Musicians had been 'imported' from places like Canada and the US and there was even the rare sight of two blonde dancers. For that reason alone, the sound engineers ought to have their knuckles rapped for allowing such bad microphone feedback throughout the concert.

The night got off to a slow, if awkward, start, as both audience and singers warily tried to build a rapport. The initial itinerary did not help: Lam alternated with his wife in singing some of their older hits with new outfits for each song. It felt more like a fashion show before long.

Lam showed that marriage had not hurt his charisma, with the women in the audience throwing themselves at him at every opportunity. At certain parts of Lonely Won't Leave Me Alone, he had a woman clinging around his neck for almost every verse.
