The Wynners: Music is Live Concert Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre April 20 Although the Wynners have been disbanded for longer than they were together, the five-man group still holds the honour of being the ones who brought the Canto-pop band sound to the rest of Southeast Asia with hits like L-O-V-E and Sha-la-la.
Alan Tam Wing-lun, Kenny Bee, Anthony Chan Yau, Bennett Pang Kin-sang and Danny Yip Chi-keung went their separate ways in the mid-70s, but remain good friends and get together every five years for a reunion concert.
This marks their silver anniversary, and this concert served as a prelude and a warm-up for their proper concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum in August. As such, the show was a lot briefer than most concert-goers were used to, with Tam calling an initial end after only about 70 minutes on stage.
But since the show was free for the Manhattan 903 id club members and Commercial Radio listeners, there was little cause for complaint.
Surely, Tam forgot some of his lyrics - something which he is infamous for anyway - and the whole show was more like a jam session than a proper concert.
The show started off rather weak in the acoustics with a rearranged version of L-O-V-E and Go To Pieces. Tam's microphone was hardly audible and also suffered some terrible feedback.
