DIRECTOR Peter Chan Ho-sun, right, currently finishing his Hollywood debut The Love Letter, had a good buddy when growing up in Tsim Sha Tsui. However, the two lost touch after Chan's family moved to Thailand. They met again in Hollywood recently where, ironically, they have ended up working for the same boss - DreamWorks SKG. Chan is with the feature films department overseen by Steven Spielberg while his friend - Raman Hui, lead character animator for Antz - works with animation czar Jeffrey Katzenberg, who recently told us Hui would be a 'very important person' in the world of animation.

Comic trials raise roadside smiles IF you live near Broadcast Drive and have been seeing a lot of weirdly dressed people the past few Sundays, don't worry. It is just comedy king Stephen Chiau Sing-chi, right, holding some comedy auditions in conjunction with Commercial Radio. About 200 to 300 of the funniest candidates will be chosen to attend a series of six comedy workshops run by the likes of Sandra Ng, Eric Kot and Jan Lamb. If they are lucky, who knows? They might just end up being in Chiau's new movie. Incidentally, we also hear that they have finally found a suitable scriptwriter to start work on the Hollywood remake of God Of Cookery.

Kwan set to sue over reports TO sue or not to sue? This is the dilemma that faces some artists when they see exaggerated or untrue 'reports' about themselves in the Chinese media these days. One daily trumpeted that Anita Yuen Wing-yee was not even worth $50,000 to directors. Yuen initially wanted to sue but she decided that her lucrative deal playing Fa Mulan was sufficient to disprove the report. Rosamund Kwan, left, however, has no such means of rebutting recent reports involving her and a prominent businessman. So she has brought in the legal big guns to initiate a libel suit.

Bride's faith in wedding bliss WEDDING bells will toll for actress Chingmy Yau Suk-ching, left, and fiance Shum Ka-wai next February. However, the happy couple, who got engaged a few months ago, have yet to pick the auspicious day. Such is her faith in husband-to-be that Yau is not too worried about not being able to get a good venue for the reception. 'He will find a way to take care of things, I'm sure,' she told reporters. They have, however, got together a list of maids of honour and attendants which will include Aaron Kwok, Julian Cheung, Veronica Yip and Carina Lau.
