FOR a long time, television actors have not been given the recognition they deserve, considering the longer hours and smaller pay cheques they usually get, compared to film actors and actresses.

It was heartening, therefore, to see TVB finally hand out awards to their best. Top of the list were Gallen Law Ka-leung (right) and Ada Choi Siu-fun for their appearances in the series Secret Of The Heart. Choi was a double winner because she and Ng Kai-wah were also named best couple. The best game show award went to Eric Tsang's slapstick-for-prizes The Super Trio Show.

Director's cultural exchange IN Hollywood it takes time to get any project off the ground, action director Stanley Tong Kwai-lai (left) has found. Since Mr Magoo, Tong has looked around for the right vehicle, but prefers developing his own projects.

So far, he has been developing one project called Wetworks, and also a remake of the 1970s TV hit Charlie's Angels. While waiting for the green light, he also recently announced another attempt to 'bring Chinese culture to the US' by writing a script on the legendary Chinese war hero Ngok Fei. He hopes Aaron Kwok will play the lead role.

Guest star provides a talking point IN the meantime, Stanley Tong can take heart in that his CBS television series Martial Law, starring Sammo Hung Kam-po (left), has been quite a hit. Now in mid-season, the producers have recently announced a new addition to the show: former talk-show host Arsenio Hall.

Hall will play a new sidekick for Hung and, although he is signed on to guest for only three episodes, insiders are hoping he will soon be a permanent addition. Seems as though, after the success of Rush Hour, the new Hollywood formula is to match a wise-cracking African-American with a Chinese kung fu star.
