New slot for info-tainment programme
TVB Jade's revamped info-tainment programme Man's Frontier did not last long in the face of competition from My Fair Princess. The station aired the last in the series on Friday and has 're-shaped' it into a more localised information programme, City On-line. The new show has been moved to a later slot starting tomorrow. My Fair Princess starts its second season tomorrow and it will be interesting to see how new series Ultra Protection will fare against it. In the meantime, ATV is not about to pass up an opportunity to 'advertise' its recent triumphs and plans to run adverts thanking TVB head honcho Sir Run Run Shaw for saying he likes My Fair Princess. To think ATV bought the series more than a year ago and left it in a store room! CR2 brings in big guns for early listeners ON the radio front, Commercial Radio 2 has moved some big guns into its morning slot after a new deal with KMB to broadcast the channel on the latter's buses. One of those most looked forward to will no doubt be Jan Lamb Hoi-fung, who used to be half of the Soft and Hardcore Kids. Lamb has been dabbling with films and has been shying from the microphone lately. But the fact that sis Sandy Lamb San-san is back as director of CR2's no doubt helped persuade him. Jan Lamb's Wonderful World airs from 7am to 9am, followed by Sandra Ng Kwun-yu and Lee Lik-chi's boisterous Wah Wah Wah.
Kwong makes new career in writing FORMER singer Cally Kwong Mei-wan's new book on beauty tips has been doing well and is on its fifth reprint. Beautiful Thoughts - a series of essays and poems by Kwong about her ideas of family, beauty and culture - was originally published in Taiwan but did so well that it was released here. Kwong withdrew from singing after her divorce from actor Ray Lui Leung-wai and is studying for her gemology diploma. She also has started to design her own ostrich skin bags for export.
Canto-pop 'rivals' record duet for Tam IT made history when veteran Canto-poppers and reported 'long-time rivals' Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing and Alan Tam Wing-lun recorded a duet recently. Cheung, as Ad-lib readers might remember, just signed with Universal Music where Tam is and one of the first projects is a medley duet for a tribute album to Tam. The two singers - who were the two Canto-pop Kings of the 80s - even got together to film a music video for the single to show there were no hard feelings. However, they kept their filming a secret from fans who have, in the past, clashed about who was the 'better' singer.
