All out of love and a job in radio
WHAT a shocker! After 11 months of being mushily gooey and 'in love', radio host Hung Chiu-fung and socialite Po Wing-kum have called it quits. Since taking up with the socialite, Hung has had his share of being in the media glare. The past fortnight has seen the disc jockey dominate the headlines again - but less pleasantly. First he was leaving Metro Radio, then he wasn't, then he was, then he wasn't . . . then he cussed on-air and, in doing so, effectively ended his employment at the station.
Simultaneously he announced that he had taken the prerogative to call it quits with Ms Po but has not given any reasons for the decision, although speculation is that it might have something to do with pictures of him and a male friend in Dalian published by a Chinese newspaper recently. But the disc jockey does not seem overly concerned. He says he has plans to start his own business, which is fortunate given that all three radio stations have publicly said they will not be hiring Hung in the near future. But never say never though. This is Hong Kong, after all.
Couples' quiet success TWO celebrity couples have been included in the vote for the top 20 ideal 'millennium couples' in Hong Kong and it should come as no surprise that one is Chow Yun-fat and wife Jasmine Tan while the other is Clarence Chang and actress-turned-psychologist Josephine Siao Fong-fong. When asked about the secret of their successful marriages, Chow and Siao were unanimous: 'Knowing when to shut up.' According to Siao, she and her husband keep their mouths shut when the other party is angry or in a bad mood.
Chow says it is a matter of waiting until the other side calms down before starting any discussions about the problem. All we can say is congratulations to both couples.
Mother Nature answers CONGRATULATIONS are also in order for singer Cass Phang Ling who is the latest to join the list of celebrity mamas expecting millennium babies. Phang, who was in Taipei recently to promote her new album, announced to the press that she was five months pregnant. The baby is expected in early March and although Phang already knows the sex of the baby, she refuses to divulge it until nearer the birth. The singer plans to give birth in Canada where her family resides and get her mother's help in taking care of the baby initially. Phang married radio host Jan Lamb Hoi-fung last year in a private ceremony and indicated she was not planning for a baby, saying she was 'leaving it to nature'. Quite obviously, nature took its course.
Fast track to the front ACTRESS-SINGER Karen Mok Man-wai is obviously a great fan of Canadian rocker Alanis Morissette - which may perhaps explain the similar hairstyles. Mok was spotted in the audience at the singer's Hong Kong concert last weekend, waiting patiently for the show to start. No sooner had the lights started to dim and the musicians come on stage than Mok shot out of her chair and before you could say 'Stephen Chiau', she was standing at the front railings waiting for her idol to show. She beat even Morissette's teenaged fans to the finishing line! With the crush of audience members at the front, Mok was not visible again for the rest of the show. We hope - tiny thing that she is - she survived all right.
