Touch Of Love
(What's Music)
The problem with being a 'god' is the general expectation that you perform miracles. For Jacky Cheung - acknowledged as the best singer in Hong Kong in recent years - this English language debut album has been 10 years coming. It's no miracle, but it comes with pretty high production standards.
Cheung is not the first Asian singer to record in English. But Touch Of Love goes one-up on his rivals, with an all-original repertoire. Cheung has packed this album with commercial numbers from overseas writers, among whom is Boyzone's Ronan Keating (All I Ask).
Cheung runs the gamut of genres. The opening track, Corazon De Melao, is a boisterous duet he performs with Latin singer Emmanuel, and there's also a duet with country star Reba McEntire, For My Broken Heart.
But some of his best performances on the album are And Then She Hit Me and I Got It Made, in which the guitar-riffs and the change of singing style provide the extra kick to the album.
