Legislator Emily Lau Wai-hing of The Frontier has expressed concern that an investigation into an alleged assault on a maid three months ago is being unduly delayed.
Police deny the inquiry - into how the Indonesian woman ended up in hospital with a ruptured liver - has been held up. 'We are putting the finishing touches to the investigation. We are still seeking legal advice,' a spokesman said.
Last week, the Sunday Morning Post revealed allegations by 27-year-old mother Uti (not her real name) that her employer kicked her nine times during an attack in October.
She later collapsed at a railway station and was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital, where she spent 13 days being treated for a ruptured liver. She is still having regular check-ups and remains in a refuge.
Police said the case had been classified as wounding and criminal intimidation. The employer is on police bail and must report back to Sha Tin station early next month, a spokesman said.
Ms Lau, who represents New Territories East, urged police to investigate the assault case 'very thoroughly and without delay'.
