Andy Lau Tak-wah was the big winner at the 7th Channel V Chinese Music Awards held in Beijing with three awards in the bag. Lau (left) was named most popular artist in the region; his song It's Not A Sin For A Man To Cry and a duet with Kelly Chan Wai-lam, I Don't Love You Enough, also made the list of 20 Best Songs. Lau, however, lost the media choice award which he has won for several years running to Taiwanese popster Richie Jen Hsien-chi.

The list of top honours showed that the more established singers are still far from being eclipsed by the younger generation on the regional scene. Jacky Cheung Hok-yau and Faye Wong (right) were named most outstanding male and female singer respectively. Asia's most charismatic male and female singer awards went to Leon Lai Ming and Kelly Chan. Lai also took the best album prize for his Love Heaven And Earth. The awards also paid tribute to two upcoming artists: Wang Lee-hom and Nicholas Tse Ting-fung, named best singer-songwriter for Taiwan and Hong Kong respectively.

Other winners included Coco Lee, David Tao, Wu Bai and China Blue, Karen Mok Man-wai, Elva Hsiao, Julian Cheung Chi-lam and Jeff Chang. In total, 53 awards were handed out to more than 40 singers, musicians and music video producers from Hong Kong, Taiwan and the mainland during the three-hour ceremony which was co-presented with Beijing's CCTV. It will be broadcast on Channel V at 9.30pm tomorrow.
