To celebrate Chinese New Year, households traditionally use festive scrolls, plants and flowers to decorate the house.

Flowers symbolise good luck, rebirth, new growth and vitality.

People in Hong Kong usually go to local New Year's Eve 'fair pools' or Flower Market Road in Mongkok to buy their favourite lucky plants and flowers after the annual reunion dinner.

Florist Chan Pui-shan from Banfan Floriculture said: 'People who don't plant things in time will buy lucky plants or flowers to take home for the New Year.'

In addition to decorating the house, it is considered lucky and a sign of prosperity if flowers bloom on New Year's Day.
