Pottinger Street is really happening. Mes Amis and Phi-B opened up the area and now Apres is joining in the fun. The location is excellent and, says manager Toby Cooper, explains the name. 'We began by thinking along the lines of apres ski. If you look at Pottinger Street, with a bit of imagination, it could be a ski slope.' While that idea may stretch the imagination a little, the name has stuck.
The interior was created by Zanghellini Holt (behind Agave and Thai Basil). Splashes of purple and green break up the white interior. The bar is split level and huge windows allow for plenty of natural light. The lighting system is top of the range and allows for an easy change of ambience.
Beers and standard drinks are $44-$48, but $30 during happy hours from 5pm to 8pm. Apres, which doubles as a restaurant, is at Upper Basement, 79 Wyndham St, Central. Tel: 2524 7722. Open from 7.30am till late.
