Heart-throb weds his TV queen

Japanese star Takashi Sorimachi is further proof that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. The star of summer hit GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) has announced that he and 'queen of television dramas' Nanako Matsushima officially became man and wife a week ago.

'Nanako is a very homely person and a very good cook. I really love all the home-cooked meals she makes for me,' Sorimachi said during a press conference at Fuji TV. The blushing new bride, however, said it was the actor's 'honesty and personality' that attracted her most. But, besides that, the couple revealed they shared a common interest in cars, fishing and golf.

Sorimachi is the second Japanese heart-throb to marry in the past three months.

Long Vacation star Takuya Kimura wed singer Shizuka Kudo in January this year. The 27-year-old, a former model, made his television debut in 1994 but hit the big time with the Baywatch-like Beach Boys in 1998 while Matsushima, also 27, has starred in dramas such as Terms For A Witch. Both met on the set of GTO in 1998 and became secretly engaged last October and will be working together again on a new NHK drama series this autumn. Sorimachi will also be holding a solo concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum on March 7 and is expected to co-star with Andy Lau Tak-wah in a coming Hong Kong movie.
