A lucky group of youngsters spent a day experiencing life on a sailing junk at the Outward Bound school in Sai Kung. Junk Sailing Training is among the activities offered by the P&G 903 Brave Teens Progrlome, organised by Commercial Radio 2.

The training gives youngsters an opportunity to recognise themselves, enhance their self- confidence and learn how to co- operate with others.

In addition to the 60 youngsters, Canto-pop star Ekin Cheng, rising stars Tang Kin- wan, Chung Siu-hong and DJ Sammy were also invited along.

After an introduction to the one-day seamanship training course, participants were split into groups to play team exercises and games to break the ice.

Instructor Tracy Ng Tsui-shan said that because the emphasis in sailing was on co-operation, the exercises were a good way for them to get along and help the journey by strengthening team spirit.

Before boarding the three junks - Diamond, Gold and Jade - the seasoned tutors explained safety issues and the boats' regulations. Everyone had to wear a safety vest. Each part of the junk was then introduced.

The young sailors were assigned to different positions and to take turns in being responsible for different duties, including steering and adjusting the can vas during the journey. They also learned about setting sail, turning direction, observing wind directions and taking command.
