Junior cyclist Tam Tsun-ming's success is a testament to the power of positive thinking. 'I can do it,' he kept telling himself before sitting the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination. And he did.
The Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School student scored six As.
'It's really a big surprise for me! I only expected to get 20-odd marks in the exam,' he said.
The 17-year-old science student, who is following the Asian squad to train in Kunming and was given permission by his coach to fly back to Hong Kong to receive his results, will return to the mainland to continue the one-month high-altitude training.
He says the key to good results is being focused during lessons and managing time effectively.
'Everybody gets 24 hours, how you use them is important,' he said.
'To get more time to study and train, I have to sacrifice my leisure time - unlike most young people, I do not hang out, chat on the phone or ICQ very often.'
