The annual New Year's Day Youth Rugby Tournament took place at the Hong Kong Football Club in Happy Valley offering players an opportunity to test their mettle.

In women under 19s; men under 12s, under 14s and under 16s, Hong Kong players crushed their Overseas rivals.

The Director of Youth of the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union, Danny Tsang, said: 'Our teams were excellent this year, making us optimistic about the future development of rugby in Hong Kong.'

But in the under 19s category, the Overseas team won without being scored against. Overseas' back position player Mark Wright, from Millfield in Britain, was awarded best and fairest player of the game.

Looking back over the history of the tournament, this category has been dominated by the Overseas team since 1992. The Hong Kong squad only won once - that was back in 1998.
