Tarzan And Jane
(Disney VCD, $58)
It had to happen. There's been a sequel to almost every other modern Disney release over the past few years, so it was only a matter of time before the king of the jungle got in on the act. And let's face it, as heroes go, it's hard to beat the appeal of the ape man.
In Tarzan And Jane, we find the loin-clothed lovers living happily ever after - one year on from their marriage - in the jungle with their animal friends, Terk the gorilla and Tantor the elephant, plus Jane's comical father.
Things are still rosy, of course. Tarzan loves Jane, Jane loves Tarzan - and to prove it she's searching for the perfect way to celebrate her first wedding anniversary with her man. Will it be a surprise party? A gem? Or perhaps a dance under the moonlight? But as any woman knows, finding the perfect gift for the average man is not that easy and as Terk and Tantor remind her, by retelling three adventures of the last year, Tarzan is definitely not an average man and theirs is not an average relationship.
Stringing three adventures together this way works well, but if you're hoping for something of the calibre of the first film, you'll be a tad disappointed.
