More than 1,000 fans lined the pavements as superstar Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing made his last journey through Hong Kong's streets from the Hong Kong Funeral Home to the Cape Collinson crematorium yesterday.

Followers waved and wept as the hearse, covered with Cheung's favourite white flowers and green leaves, carried their idol to his last resting place. Many had been waiting since early morning to say their final farewells.

Cheung, who committed suicide last week, held an unrivalled place in the entertainment world for many of his fans. Raymond Szeto, 34, and girlfriend Cindy Tak, 25, were among those who turned up for the funeral. 'I don't think he really had that many good friends. If he did, this would not have happened,' Mr Szeto said.
