Two more patients at North District Hospital were yesterday confirmed to have contracted Sars, but the Hospital Authority insisted the outbreak there was under control.

This came as three people died of Sars in Hong Kong yesterday, taking the total number of deaths to 281. There were three new cases, including a patient who was infected while being treated at Caritas Medical Centre. There have now been 1,742 Sars cases in Hong Kong.

On Saturday, Wong Kang-tai, a Prince of Wales Hospital ward attendant, became the seventh medic to die from Sars.

So far, 91 patients at North District Hospital have been traced for close monitoring since Sars was confirmed in two elderly patients who died there on May 24 and 25.

To date, three patients - including two more elderly people - and three medical workers at the hospital in Sheung Shui have been confirmed with the virus. All six have been transferred to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po because North District Hospital does not handle Sars patients.
