When Aunties members Five and Eight, dressed in elaborate tango costumes, wigs and high-heels, mocked Canto-pop duo Twins' dance technique, the audience burst into laughter. Although sprinkled with funny skits, the group's live show at the Jockey Club Auditorium, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, on Sunday failed to live up to expectations. At three hours, it was too long, and the technical problems did not help.
The performance consisted of a short video screening, drama and a prize presentation.
Despite the audio and video glitches, the eight-member boy band Aunties received a great reception - as always - from the audience.
Aunties first danced their way on to the stage dressed in white T-shirts and shorts, singing a song by Canto-pop girl band Cookies. Then they changed their attire to colourful super-hero costumes and masks, appearing as Aunties Rangers - characters in the band's latest video and drama production which portrays a group of 'freedom fighters'' protecting the world from the evil '24'. While the video, also starring famous comedy director Lee Lik-chee, demonstrated the group's talents, the drama disappointed the audience with 'silly'' elements such as a scene where actors sat on swivel chairs moving back and forth as if they were in a car chase.
