More than 1,000 stars and guests turn out at the Great Hall of the People for city's biggest film event of the year
Sub-zero temperatures failed to deter more than 1,000 guests and media representatives from descending on the Great Hall of the People for last night's star-studded world premiere of Infernal Affairs III.
The movie is the long-awaited conclusion to Hong Kong's 2002 box office hit Infernal Affairs.
Six of the cast members - Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Andy Lau Tak-wah, Anthony Wong Chau-sang, Leon Lai Ming, Kelly Chen Wai-lum and Chapman To Man-chak - attended the premiere, as well as screenwriter Felix Chong Man-keung and the two directors, Andrew Lau Wai-keung and Alan Mak Siu-fai.
The stars had earlier been through a gruelling day of interviews that started at 9am. Ironically, one of those who could not make it to the premiere was home-grown talent Chen Daoming, star of the film Hero and the television series Yongzheng Dynasty.
'We rarely see so many top actors in town for a premiere; there's usually only about two or three. This is definitely the biggest film event in Beijing this year,' one mainland reporter said before positioning himself for the photo opportunity.
Infernal Affairs III will open on more than 60 film circuits across the mainland on Friday, the same day as its release in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. In Hong Kong, the movie will be shown on more than 100 screens.
