Looking for a little peace and quiet after all the festivities? Why not visit a tea- house for a gentle dose of revitalisation.

Ming Cha Great Food Hall, Basement, Pacific Place, Admiralty. The cool and contemporary Ming Cha recently opened inside the Great supermarket in Pacific Place. Brightly lit, and with a dozen stools around a counter, it's more of a tea bar than a tea house. 25 teas on offer, including Iced Puer ($40), Silver Needles Supreme ($60), Green Oolong ($28), and White Peony Supreme ($40). There's a range of packaged teas for sale, with 120g of loose leaf tea from $95 to $330. Open daily, 10am-10pm

Saint's Alp Teahouse 1K Nanking St, Jordan, Kowloon. Tel: 2783 8582. Near the Jordan end of Temple Street market, this small, bright tea house has a huge range of mouth-watering teas made with plums, ginger, strawberry, ruby grapefruit, wild berry, iced mint, honey and more, $12 to $25, all served hot or cold. The cold green apple tea, ($14 for 12 ounces) is delicious. There are also milkshakes, coffee and a menu of about 20 Asian savory dishes at $14 to $27 per portion. Open Sun-Thu, 10.30am-12.30am; Fri-Sat, 11am-2am

The Best Tea House Co 1 Lock Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, tel: 2311 7270. A tiny branch of the company stocks about 50 brands of tea, and you can taste as many as you like for free. And of course you can buy tea to take home. 100g packets cost from $40 to $1,500. Open daily, 10am-9pm

The Luk Yu Tea House 24-26 Stanley St, Central. Tel: 2523 5464. This Hong Kong institution (right) is famous for several things, a recent shooting among them, but definitely not for its friendly service. Expect to wait to be seated and wait again to be served, but it's worth it for the old world ambiance, complete with uniformed doorman and genuinely shabby chic decor. There are about six kinds of tea on offer, and the food is excellent. Prices are steep and it's noisy, but it's lively, and a great place to bring your take visitors. Daily, 7am-11pm. Dim sum is served until 5pm

Lockcha Tea Shop Ground Floor, K S Lo Gallery, Hong Kong Park (near the tea museum), Admiralty. Tel: 2801 7177. Gentle background music, wooden floors and tables spaced generously apart, the Lockcha tea shop is a gracious haven to recover from Pacific Place. It serves more than 50 types of tea, ceremoniously prepared at your table, along with a small but tasty vegetarian dim sum selection for $12 to $15 per portion.
