Melies Magic And Early

French Cinema

Rare French silent movies, and  amusing shorts by  brothers Louis and Auguste Lumiere, who set up the first public cinema screening in Paris in 1895, and director, writer, actor and magician Georges Melies who specialised in early  cinematographic effects such as apparitions, disappearances and metamorphoses. Two of his descendents will be present as moderator and pianist on Fri (the opening night)  and Sun. Most screenings have live music  and English title cards.
