Meeting people is what makes university fun. Joining clubs can help you rapidly expand your social network
University can be as much about meeting people as it is about studying. But outside your particular course, how can you expand your social network?
Most universities provide a diverse range of extra-curricular clubs which can help you do just that. And the people you meet there may turn into lifelong friends.
If you have a special interest, find a club to match. This does not have to be an accountancy or engineering club, but rather one catering to hobbies and sports.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong has more than 50 clubs and organisations, ranging from a comic society to Chinese University campus radio, chorus singing, photographic clubs and a kung fu club.
At City University, students organise outdoor activities that include barbecues, hiking and a wide range of sports. Every afternoon between 4.30pm and 5.30pm, there is a 'happy hour' session where students are encouraged to meet and make new friends.
Besides a range of clubs and student activities, the Polytechnic University's Jockey Club Auditorium offers a venue for cultural activities, conferences and exchange activities, exhibitions and more.
