Aquacube raising funds for clean-water campaign
Every eight seconds a child loses his or her life because of a water-borne disease such as typhoid or cholera. Forty per cent of the world's population faces a shortage of clean water.
To raise awareness of these and other water-related problems, Unicef Hong Kong and Unicef Young Envoys Club have launched a fund-raising campaign called Aquacube.
By 2015, Unicef aims to halve the proportion of people without access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation in addition to equipping all schools with sanitation and hand-washing facilities.
The cost to achieve these goals is estimated to be US$9 billion a year.
As part of Aquacube, a charity variety show was held at the Jockey Club Auditorium in Polytechnic University last week. It featured singing and dancing, a fashion show and interactive games conducted by students.
Musician Chet Lam Yat-fung, the Pancakes, Pong-nan and star Ekin Cheng Yi-kin were among the guest performers.
