Participants in government training programmes share similar job expectations to those their parents have for them, research has shown.
However, more than half the young trainees questioned said they lacked the confidence to apply for their preferred jobs.
The Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Youth Employment Integrated Service Centre interviewed 687 government trainees aged 15 to 25, along with 186 parents.
Twenty-five employers from different sectors were also consulted.
The trainees and parents were asked to choose and rank their top 10 of 43 listed jobs. The most popular four options were clerk, office assistant, librarian and social service assistant.
However, centre chief Law Kit-ying stressed there were many job seekers looking for these ideal openings.
