Lawmakers yesterday decided to delay a vote on setting up a Legislative Council investigation into the Hunghom Peninsula demolition after the housing chief agreed to release more information.

Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands Michael Suen Ming-yeung said the government would release details under its code of public access to information.

He said they had sent a letter to the developers seeking their consent to disclose the information. 'We hope they will understand the public concern and agree with what we've done,' he said.

But he said some information would remain confidential.

The developers, New World Development and Sun Hung Kai Properties, said in a joint statement last night they did not object to releasing the information.

'The developers wish to reiterate that they have been acting strictly in accordance to the land lease. In principle, the developers do not object to the government's release of relevant documents to the legislature,' the statement said.
