What is it?

A combination of basic ballet poses, stretches and simple dance, taught by Anna Serafinas, a former soloist with the Essen Ballet Company in Germany and the Bavarian State Ballet, Munich. A dance teacher, Serafinas was ballet mistress for the Hong Kong Ballet from 1992 to 1995.

Where's the class?

At the Flex studio in Stanley, above Pacific Coffee. It's the only private Pilates and yoga studio on the south side.

Do you need to have done ballet before?

At the class, there is one other person who has never got close to a tutu before. But the other six or seven people are more co-ordinated with the simultaneous arm and leg moves, and have varying degrees of experience. However, participants don't need to have taken a dance class before and it's for all levels of fitness. It's non-competitive and more about strengthening than being graceful. Participants needn't wear ballet shoes. Basic sports clothes and socks will do.
