Stephy Tang Lai-yan, formerly of girl band Cookies, said she was worried sick the night before her first solo performance this month - even though it was in front of only a small crowd, in the APM shopping centre in Kwun Tong.

'I couldn't sleep well the night before and had a lot of dreams about oversleeping and missing the gig - I'd never been so nervous,' said the 21-year-old singer, who has played to audiences of hundreds of fans.

Tang (right) said her nerves stemmed from doubts about her decision to go solo. She was the first of the four members of Cookies to go it alone. The group, formed in 2002 with nine teenage girls, was later cut down to a quartet. They disbanded last year.

'I wasn't used to performing and doing interviews on my own,' she said. 'But the pressure motivated me to be more serious about work.'
