Kenny Kwan, formerly of boy band Boy'z, said he had reservations about going solo.

Kwan, whose debut album is out soon, left the band earlier this year under an arrangement with record company EEG (Emperor Entertainment Group). 'I was worried that I wasn't experienced and mature enough to handle everything by myself,' said the 24-year-old. 'Sometimes during interviews I get lost for words. In the past, there was more time for me to think because we took turns answering reporters' questions.'

The duo, formed in 2002, were a popular local teenage boy group and won best-selling newcomer at the IFPI Hong Kong Top Sales Music Awards 2003. Since Kwan's departure, his partner Steven Cheung Chi-hang has teamed up with Dennis Mak Tsz-ho.

Kwan recently returned from a one-month music and vocal course in Singapore, which he said helped him with the recording process.

'I didn't have a clue what to do when the producer was telling me to lower and raise my voice when recording in the studio,' he said. 'But now I understand what he wants. My ears have become more sensitive and I'm more confident in singing live.'

Kwan also said he had some production input, had helped with the design of the cover, and had also written a song for the album.
