Singer Yan Ng Yat-yin doesn't expect to go too far and fast in her second year in the music industry.
The 21-year-old, one of the most outstanding newcomers last year, stars in Dennis Law Sau-yiu's new movie, The Unusual Youth, alongside newcomer Race Wong Yuen-ling.
'I know it will be hard to maintain my popularity in the second year,' she says. 'But I don't want to go too fast. I like this industry and want to stay in it for at least 10 years. I don't need a meteoric rise.'
After a year in the industry, she says she's found that being an entertainer isn't a simple job. 'Being a singer, you have to perform well on the stage,' says Ng (right). 'At the same time, we have to keep learning new things to add value to ourselves and to establish our own styles.'
To be more aware of rhythm and beats, she's now learning drums. 'People may think learning piano or guitar is more suitable for a girl and for helping me write songs,' she says. 'But I'm more sensitive to drums.'
Last year, Ng released two EPs, Little One and Two Little, and she's now working on her next record, to be released in August.
