Trip out of this world
To many, experiencing space is limited to fantasies fuelled by movies such as Star Wars.
But for six children, astronaut training will become a reality next month.
MassMutual Asia, organiser and sponsor of the annual MassMutual Jr Space Camp, has chosen its finalists to take part in a rare experience at the US Space Camp.
The six jetting off to the US are Brian Yim from Shanghai Rego International School, Goldia Wong from Good Hope Primary School, Jason Yung from La Salle Primary School, Jason Fan from Sha Tin Junior School, Stephanie Chan from Marymount Primary School and Ernest So from SKH Yan Laap Memorial Primary School.
They were chosen from a pool of 2,000 contestants who had to produce a creative item based on the theme 'If I could travel in space . . . It is Possible!'
Following this, the 50 shortlisted youngsters and one of their parents had to undergo a series of physical fitness exercises and test their space knowledge, communication skills and self-confidence.
The final 15 then faced an interview process, where the final six were chosen.
