Designer Bina Modi (above) is back in town. For years, the New Delhi native has been coming to Hong Kong to unveil her hand-embroidered creations for private clients, most of whom are not from the Indian community but Chinese tai tais who fancy her handiwork.
'All my works are hand embroidered,' she says. 'I collect antiques and some of them have amazing stitchwork and design so I tried to do some myself. The reaction from friends was so positive I decided to start it as a small business. Now 99 per cent of my customers here are local Chinese.'
Modi has been here so many times, she's become active in local causes. Part of the proceeds from her sales here will be donated to Suicide Prevention Services. Hong Kong also gave her the inspiration to start a foot reflexology venture back home.
Modi's collection is previewed at the Four Seasons hotel today and tomorrow until 7pm.
