What is it?
At first glance, just another skin-care range. But this is different - possibly because its pharmacist founders (husband and wife team Nikos and Niki Koutsianas) created it to reflect their 'passion for nature' and say they were inspired by Greek philosophy.
What do they make?
The company says the Mediterranean climate of Greece is responsible for the beneficial properties of Apivita's extracts. Some of the plants - mastic from Chios and dittany from Crete - are unique to the country. Its essential oils are designed to improve mood and enhance well-being. It makes moisturisers, masks, body lotions and hair products, including Harmony (for relaxation), Energy (to invigorate), Euphoria (to inspire a sense of fulfilment) and Metamorphosis (which targets cellulite and fat).
What does Apivita mean?
The Koutsianas say they're inspired by bees and the 'intricately choreographed life' of a hive. They say Apivita shares the bees' attitude to sustainable development (in which teamwork, discipline and communication are crucial), producing products with respect for nature. Apivita comes from the Latin words apis (bee) and vita (life). They say this sums up their identity. 'We've always remained true to Hippocrates' maxim that nature is the most dominant ruler of all,' the founders say. The company has been around for 25 years, but is new to Hong Kong.
