So, who in the world is going to buy a $50,000 pair of shoes?
Well, Ferragamo is betting lots of Hong Kong guys will. The Italian shoe maker launched its made-to-order Tramezza men's shoe service this week, and presented three local A-listers with a pair of the personalised footwear. Of course, the three people they selected - Derek Yeung, grandson of a textile baron, Alex Lui Wing-fon, grandson of KMB's founder, and Philip Ma Ching-yeung, son of Tai Sang Land Development's director - can all actually afford such lofty loafers. According to Ferragamo's men's shoes and accessories product director, Javier Suarez (left), who flew in from Italy: 'It's great for men because men don't like to shop around and this allows them a private setting to express their needs for footwear. Tramezza shoes are intended to be worn for as long as 50 years and come with a lifetime repair service.'
If $50,000 is a bit steep, there are also more basic models which start from a mere $10,000. At that kind of price, we're reminded of Paul Simon's hit song and we're expecting diamonds on the soles of those shoes!
