His exhibition is called The Newsmakers, but the Post's Terry Pontikos (below) would like it known he's not just a political cartoonist. As a caricature painter, he's done all variety of people in all variety of fields. It's just that he finds leaders in the Asian region so fascinating and their facial features so appealing to capture.
'There are so many great subjects within this region,' Pontikos says before a final check of the exhibit, which opens today at the Exchange Square rotunda. 'Working with news figures can be tricky. I've had a few illustrations pulled for being a bit too harsh on the subject, and occasionally there are reader complaints here and there, but usually it's very vague.'
What also makes Pontikos' art so different is his work method. 'I'm using a style that's kind of new. I combine Photoshop with montages of photos. I use bits and pieces of features and montage them together. This method does require an eye for distortion.'
