Sound like someone you know?

If the mere thought of plodding along next to the muscle-bound and beautiful in a gym makes you sweat, look elsewhere - or look at it differently.

It could be a new, fun activity, or for those with no self-motivation, a trainer to build up your confidence in the gym may be the way to go.

Pure Gym fitness manager Jonathan Gabler says although it's easy to hide weight gain in winter, now is the time to start with an individualised programme if you're serious about getting fit.

'In cold weather, we cover our bodies more and may become less aware and concerned with our level of body fat,' Gabler says. 'It becomes more challenging to get out of the house and make your way to a class, the gym or go for a run.'

He says to aim for eight hours of sleep every night and hang around people who stay active during winter - their energetic ways may rub off on you.
