Going back to the future

Why you can trust SCMP

With developers and government rushing to tear down our past for malls and glass offices, Fringe Club director Benny Chia has decided - as part of the City Festival's The Excavation Project - to create a memory capsule so future generations can recall how Hong Kong looked before more landmarks disappear.

The time capsule will consist mainly of photographs, and the public is invited to contribute images that will be sealed until the Fringe building's 200th birthday celebrations in 2090.

Any sort of heritage pictures - building, place, food, music, anything at all - can be e-mailed in. Most importantly, they want contributors to explain why the item is significant to you and Hong Kong. Background can include a story, a memory, or something you know about your chosen subject.

Photographic submissions will be accepted online for six weeks. Items that cannot be e-mailed, such as a music CD or a film, can be brought along to the Fringe's box office with your story.
