K Wah Real Estates will convert its two Wong Chuk Hang industrial sites

Small developer K Wah Real Estates intends to turn its two factory sites in Wong Chuk Hang into hotels.

The move comes after larger developers Henderson Land Development and Sun Hung Kai Properties cancelled plans to build hotels on their industrial sites because they considered that the premium charges sought by the government for the site conversions were too high.

K Wah last week submitted applications to convert its Scomber Building and Wah Ming Building for hotel use, according to the Town Planning Board.

The board will consider the applications within two months.

K Wah suggested turning the 9,279 sqft Scomber Building at 1 Yip Fat Street into a 31-storey hotel block. It will provide 405 guestrooms with a gross floor area of 139,168 sq ft.
